Some technologists contend that by clearly outlining policies and responding to voters’ inquiries, AI could actually increase democratic engagement. Theoretically, a well-crafted chatbot could assist citizens in navigating complicated matters such as climate legislation or healthcare policy.
However, the same technology is easily manipulable.
AI systems can flood discussions with claims, true or false, before human participants have a chance to confirm them because they produce information quickly. Furthermore, it is infamously challenging to correct false information once it has spread via social media.
Another issue that seems almost philosophical is this one.
